Shibori silk- tie dying with grandmommy

(titles are above the pictures)- grandmommy with her first tie dying silk ready to go in...also just for clarification she is wearing a t-shirt...lookin' mighty fine

first step, you have to put it in a water bath which allows the ink to go to the center easier

into the ink it goes...

i did mine after grandmommy's but i just wanted to put the photos together...grandmommy is taking my picture her first time with using my digital camera ;) good picture grandmommy

here it is after the ink bath now she is going to...

cut of the rubber bands to see her design

here it is in full glory...still wet...the darker blues are a little light than shown when dry(see last picture)...she is walking over to hang it up to dry while we work on the other 2 silk scarfs

now this is the shibori...you wrap the silk on the tube like a candy cane(which is taped down on each end) and then you wrap a string really tight around it and then you scrunch it down(it is shown in a couple pictures from now)

here is grandmommy holding the tube...you need partners for this

then we put it in a water bath and then the ink(we don't have the ink bath picture)

here is grandmommy holding the tube in the water bath

here is the silk scrunch down...there is both grandmommy's and my silk scarfs down there

here is grandmommy hanging her third tie dyed scarf(we had three scarfs- grandmommy and i made 2 tie dyed and 1 shibori)

i thought this was a good picture...mine is the darker of the two

the two on the right are the shibori and the one on the left is one of my tie dyed scarf which i re-did because my first try didn't get a lot of color

here grandmommy and i are sitting and waiting for our pieces to get damp/dry

and finally here is us to with all our creations

it was a lot of fun and hard work...shibori ooh my it was strenuous...anyways enjoy the enormous amount of pictures...there was so picture that i just had to show(which i did)...so thanks for looking at all of them
