After a bad morning...yesterday

I had a bad morning yesterday(Friday), the people i talked to know and i will leave it at that. I am better, but still not happy. Anyways, after the incident/thing i decided to go to Lancaster to paint pottery. It was nice break, i painted something for myself and something for my papa's 90th birthday(mar. 3rd). i will post what they look like when i pick them up next weekend. After i help my grandmother out with an errand. I bought myself some beer. Now i haven't drank in a long time and when i do it is a small amount. Then i went out with kim's parents which was a nice break. I found an $8 skirt. Now if people know me i HATE skirts but i was actually having fun and i found 2 dresses but one was $40 and the other $50, so i opted for the $30 skirt that had 75% off, which came out to be $7 and some change. I bought it because a friend of mine was having a James Bond party. I was not feeling 100%, but i was just getting through it, at the party i drank water and ginger ale. I am telling you all this because some of the pictures below are interesting(because i am not drunk). i am putting the titles above the picture.

this is a funny group picture...someone has the nice one on there camera(i think urs)
people in this picture(top row: L to R): me, jamie, and urs, (bottom row L to R):kim and steph

There was chips at the party, of course why not it WAS a JAMES BOND PARTY...there is no trick to this picture: my head is on the stairs and the chip is balanced on my nose and i just puckered my lips

this is jamie pointing at the chip and straddling me for some reason...as you can now tell that is the way i balanced the chip via the stairs

okay this is the oooo katie what were you thinking, well jamie was dancing on the chair(which is not safe but whatever) and urs(not shown) had a dollar resting in a strap of her dress so i took it and put it in my mouth(also not safe) and pretended to give it to jamie. i think our wires were crossed because she is poised and i...well you see. i just wanted you all to focus on my outfit. i have my boots which are shown, which justin's girlfriend Stephanie's always show hers off so i took her advice, when she told me that i should show off the boots. It was 14 degrees outside...and instead of wearing pants i am wearing my new skirt. then i am wearing my Christmas top. i also had new jewelry on which i think you can see in the next pictures.
i felt very girly an actual women. i can't explain the feeling. the morning i felt used(no i was not raped) and then i felt beautiful, very empowered, and not boyish/plain jane which i feel most of the time. i can't explain the feeling. i just wanted to show it off and move to the groove :)

here is kim and i, i am wearing my new necklaces and earrings. Kim is wearing her new headband and earring and not shown her stockings and pok-a-dot shoes(very eighties kim). we were and did have fun but got tired out at 12. we arrived at 10, very fashionable late.

here steph and me. we were chilling on the stair talking a little and resting because i was tired from having 6 hours of sleep and not having a good day and she had uncomfortable shoes on. we were taking it easy watching the drunk people and the people playing 'wii' (it is pretty cool but i just wasn't up to play with it as some people, the morning kind of ruin it for me)

here is kim and me chilling on the stairs. steph is taking the picture, after kim took the previous one. I think everyone at the party was just having fun. we just finished mid-terms week, which also wasn't fun.

jamie and i puckering

hanging out in the kitchen, kim has pepsi in her drink, she is driving and i had water

here is a view of my outfit, also jamie and i take picture together every year since our freshman year...we really have changes over that time frame(4 years)

this is the end of the night, maggie(the dog) is passed out on my lap

We woke u maggie to take a picture with her. this is right before we left about 10 minutes.

I don't want anyone to worry about the morning. i am over it until i have to do some more things and until then it is over and done. i am now just going to get past with it and focus on the good things and school. well now that i have wasted about an hour doing this blog i am going to start on my paper due monday. I JUST WANT TO POUND MY HEAD AGAINST THE TABLE. the good thing is that monday is the start of the 7 week...then we only have 8, 9, 10, and then finals which i finish on wednesday the 14th...I HAVE A WEEK AND A HALF OF SPRING BREAK. woo-hoo

i'm bored and can get motivated

SIGH...so much to do and so little time...SIGH and i don't want to do did-a-lee scotch...i just want to stare out at my view(the post below) and sleep...i'm in a weird funk...i might have to drive somewhere for a day(like next weekend, any ideas-it has to be in Ohio or West Virginia- i am close to the border-45 minutes away)

My View-from my spot in the library...ahhhh how pretty

(click and you will get a bigger picture)

A New Hair-Do

okay so on Thursday...i was tired and needed a break, so after my only class from 9-10 i decided to see how much money i had and to get my haircut. Now there were many reasons to get it done...i was tired, pamper myself, not thinking all during it, something new, my hair won't get yanked out by my backpack, and so on. This first picture is at the shibori silk, it is the only only recent one with my hair semi-down(my hair is usually up all the time)...the finally picture showing my cut hair it at the library where i am typing this, my hair look orange but it is not(i didn't get my hair color or dyed...it is the same color)...i added in the last picture that i took at my apartment before coming to the library. it was blurry so i took the other one(i just wanted to show that it didn't have the orange tint)

yesterdays gardening work

i did some gardening after the shibori...i didn't think about taking a before picture, but i estimated...the gardening was needed i had to go sideways through the bushes...it just wasn't safe for grandmommy and even grandmommy's friends who might come to the house.

this is the end of the sidewalk looking from the driveway...i also estimated where things were...i wrote on the picture "all the stuff in the bag" which means all the stuff i clipped and cut off is in the bag

here is the final picture...the wet marks are where things use to be...also it looks cold outside because of the snow but i was just in a light hoodie

and the final picture with the bag

also this morning i took grandmommy's trash...it was piling up and i figure i could just put it in the dumpster at my apartment for her... so she also now has room to put more garbage. I think next weekend is maybe putting away Christmas decorations, going through the dining room table piles, or whatever makes us happy.

tomorrow nigth i have a show called LUMA to go to...so the next blog will probably be about that :) going to do some homework now. bye.

Shibori silk- tie dying with grandmommy

(titles are above the pictures)- grandmommy with her first tie dying silk ready to go in...also just for clarification she is wearing a t-shirt...lookin' mighty fine

first step, you have to put it in a water bath which allows the ink to go to the center easier

into the ink it goes...

i did mine after grandmommy's but i just wanted to put the photos together...grandmommy is taking my picture her first time with using my digital camera ;) good picture grandmommy

here it is after the ink bath now she is going to...

cut of the rubber bands to see her design

here it is in full glory...still wet...the darker blues are a little light than shown when dry(see last picture)...she is walking over to hang it up to dry while we work on the other 2 silk scarfs

now this is the shibori...you wrap the silk on the tube like a candy cane(which is taped down on each end) and then you wrap a string really tight around it and then you scrunch it down(it is shown in a couple pictures from now)

here is grandmommy holding the tube...you need partners for this

then we put it in a water bath and then the ink(we don't have the ink bath picture)

here is grandmommy holding the tube in the water bath

here is the silk scrunch down...there is both grandmommy's and my silk scarfs down there

here is grandmommy hanging her third tie dyed scarf(we had three scarfs- grandmommy and i made 2 tie dyed and 1 shibori)

i thought this was a good picture...mine is the darker of the two

the two on the right are the shibori and the one on the left is one of my tie dyed scarf which i re-did because my first try didn't get a lot of color

here grandmommy and i are sitting and waiting for our pieces to get damp/dry

and finally here is us to with all our creations

it was a lot of fun and hard work...shibori ooh my it was strenuous...anyways enjoy the enormous amount of pictures...there was so picture that i just had to show(which i did)...so thanks for looking at all of them

Arabic night with grandmommy

So we headed to a Arabic night here at baker. I am sitting here typing about it while everyone eats food. I tried the food and it was interesting, very spicy. I really enjoyed the belly dancing girl, i mean i can move my hips a little but oh my. we also saw beautiful traditional clothing. just the intricate beading and patch work was amazing. Then we also saw four men dancing with white sticks, which i believe was a traditional dance for a wedding or celebration. Then they sang a song of peace which was very beautiful. All the music was entertaining and all you want to do is get up and dance, even though i didn't understand the words it is still entertaining.

(not from the show, but something i googled)

My baby

In the past 2 to 3 days i have had my laptop with me...it is always at my side.

updates coming on sporadic intervals...it is a nice sweet break from reading so many pages

January 23, 2007

Here is where i stand

i like these songs...it is from the movie 'Camp' via youtube.com (may take a little while to load and also the lips might be off from the video clip-i just like the song)....if you check this last night i had 3 other videos, but i figure that this one is the most important and the one i really like....

I DON'T want-to

I don't want to study,
I don't want to be here at the library,
I don't want to write papers,
I don't want to read 58 pages by tomorrow,
I don't want to study for my exam,
I don't want to go anywhere, or be anywhere,
I don't want to have a schedule,
I don't want to feel like a grown-up,
I don't want to be sick,
I JUST don't want to...

I want to sleep,
I want to cozy up with a good book,
I don't know what else i want, but i sure of hell will come up with something else...
but that is mostly all i want to do.

January 22, 2007

College sucks...just why?

Why add things that don't matter...why make things more difficult...why do i care...why do i even try...why do papers suck...why am i stressed...why does everything suck....F-ing WHY???? why does this matter...why is it important....why, just freaking WHY.

(not my room/office but it should be....)

January 15, 2007

I am better but it is going to be an early morning today (it is 1257am)...i am going to have a long day ahead of me also...i just wish writing was easier for me....well nite or good morning...whenever you read this....

GRRRR

Okay some venting for my own pleasure...
Now i am going to explain things that you might not understand but i just need to type fast and just let out all this irritation out....

I HATE writing...it is such a time consuming, detail orientated and stupid means to no freaking end...i mean i have been working all weekend trying to read just read and then today i am just trying to write 2 papers...did i write them NO, HELL NO....no i have been sitting here re-writing and re-writing and GRRRRRRR

Someone told me to do something else...i would do something else but the only thing i have to do is to write another paper....it does not get me away from my problem....grrrrrr

why does writing have to be that hard....why do some people whiz through it and i am here struggle with just a Book report and a analysis paper......ggrrrrrrr

My MLK three day weekend consisted of waking up early all weekend and my consideration of sleeping in was at 9am...i am so tired and frustrated...it is 1118pm and i want to go to sleep but i have to at least finish a rough draft for both papers before i go to sleep...Grrrrreeeeaaaaattttttt

well enough time spent venting when i can be struggling through a paper....fun oh what fun i am having....college majorly sucks and what is the freaking purpose....to get a degree, a stupid little paper for all the hell they put us through...but as Kim says...if college was easy and cheap everyone would go...so for us to be here is a accomplishment all its own.

Life consisting of Art History

Now you might say that my blogs are boring but the thought of writing something well written is not me. I can say the amazing stories in my head but they just come out jibber-ish in the end. I suppose to be reading my art history stuff but decided to take a break and write about it. This is probably a combination if many days of writing. I have limited time some days and other i am busy but not tied down.

The first thing and may be only the only thing is that i am consumed by art history. I know that is my major and that is the purpose of my major. I am interested but sometimes suffocating in the information. A couple of days ago i luck out because i didn't do all of my reading but the reading i did do, oh jeez. it was hard with things flying out of know where, facts upon facts that twisted around in my head, and names (i felt like the writer put them there just to put them there). Anyways i have extra reading to catch up on and that is what i was doing today. i am also trying to get a little ahead so i am not put into the pressure cooker like i am always feel i am put into.

this article was titled "the object of art history," certain writers were selected to write 2,500 words on the object of art history. So i am reading this article, i came upon on this paragraph and it spoke volumes to me. Maybe because i read everything else and had previous information of the articles or i might believe this as i go through a museum(hint: i don't really like museums, i get bored).

"...an object that encounters new sites, new audiences, and therefore new ways of seeing and talking about "art" is changed by those encounters. The altarpiece leaves its liturgical context and enters the museum; the Mona Lisa, after three hundred years as a portrait, becomes in the context of nineteenth-century Romanticism the embodiment of the femme fatale; swatches of objects are transferred from nineteenth-century art museums, and Navajo blankets--tribal artifacts woven by women--are exhibited in American galleries as the works of anonymous "masters" of innocent abstraction; so that the question to ask, as Nelson Goodman famously put it, is not so much "What is Art?" but "When is Art?" "

Another author states, "It doesn't really matter, in other words, whether or not my dolls are works of art, nor does it matter whether or not my kava kava statue is a doll. What matters is that, together, they can teach us something about the many ways, some different and some remarkably similar, in which people the world over--including Euro-Americans--have conceived of and used objects. More important, they can shed light on how people construct meaning in their lives--on how they negotiate the tensions between the material and the nonmaterial, between the worlds of form and formlessness. This it seems to me, is the big questions tend to lie, and this therefore should be the real object of art history.

Update: I can't remember the situation I was in when I wrote this, but I think the last paragraph makes more sense now. We should all question and create our own art in our own lives, if it isn't art or if it is doesn't matter only to us and how we see the world.

I am officially leaving tomorrow from texas. I have been since the day of my last post 11/21, it is now 12/29. I can't believe i have been here this long but in a weird way it feels like it has only been 2 weeks. The crazy thing is that school starts in 5 days...geee whiz. well i have to go and start packing some more and then do some last minute shopping and visiting with family and friends.
