Pompeii

Before the Volcano erupting the port, which is now miles away use to be right at the bottom of the long skinny tree.

Some ruins.

When Pompeii was discovered they were digging up the buildings and kept finding these holes. They didn't understand why or what they were. One man stopped them and whenever they came across a open space they would make a small hole. Then they would pour plaster-like substance into it. What they discovered was that the open holes were people, pots, animals, and everything that was here the day the Volcano erupted. Many of the the holes were destroyed, but the ones they did allow us a look at the final moments of people lives that lived in this beautiful city.

I would guess scared, worried about not understanding what was going to happen to them. I don't think they thought they it would wiped out the whole city and keep them preserved in the soot from the Volcano.

Pregnant young women.

Different areas of Pompeii, the place was huge. There are 4, 6, 8 hour tours just to visit this one place.

Amazing tile.

Tiny piece to make massive mosaics.

An old city with curbs and the bumps along the curbs were speed bumps. Found the same bumps in Rome. Interesting how we use similar things today.

This is a crosswalk. Why was it elevated you ask? Well, because people would dump sewage down the street and because they were sloped from the center of the city outward people didn't want to step in the street. Also in this picture you can see the carriages line going in between the rocks.

I am on the crosswalk.

I crossed it a few times for a photo op.

Water fountain.

Good refreshing water, was needed on this very hot and sunny day.

I picture of some pretty tree with some of the city in the background.
